Backup Your Website Using FTP

Step 1:

Download and install an FTP client software such as FileZilla, WinSCP, or Cyberduck on your computer.

These are free and reliable options that you can use.

Step 2:

Connect to your website’s server using the FTP client software.

You’ll need to enter your website’s FTP username and password, as well as the server address.

This should be provided by your web hosting provider.

Step 3:

Navigate to the directory where your website’s files are stored. This is typically in the “public_html” or “www” folder.

Step 4:

Select all the files and folders that you want to backup.

You can either click and drag your mouse over the files or use the “Ctrl+A” shortcut to select everything.

Step 5:

Right-click on the selected files and choose “Download” or “Download to” option from the drop-down menu.

This will prompt you to select a location on your computer where you want to save the backup files.

Step 6:

Choose a location on your computer where you want to save the backup files.

It’s recommended to create a new folder specifically for your website backups so that you can easily find them later.

Step 7:

Click “OK” to start the download process.

Depending on the size of your website and the number of files, this may take a few minutes or longer.

Step 8:

Once the download is complete, verify that all the files and folders have been backed up to your computer.

You can compare the file sizes and number of files with the original directory on the server to ensure that everything has been backed up correctly.

And That's It!

You’ve now successfully backed up your website using FTP!

Remember to make regular backups of your website at least once a Month.

This is so that you can quickly restore it in case of any unexpected data loss or website crashes.
